It was a Thursday in March and 60 degrees and I wasn\u2019t going to look at that mint green front porch one more summer.\u00a0 I also wanted a ceiling fan and a new light.\u00a0 So I patiently waited for my husband to come home from work and I said\u2026<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHoney, can we paint the front porch this weekend, how hard could it be?\u00a0 It should only take about an hour!\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He looked at me with his eyebrow raised\u2026\u00a0 After all, I had just given the whole the project the kiss of doom, twice!\u00a0 First when I said, \u201c\u2026how hard could it be\u201d and second, when I said, \u201cIt should take about and hour.\u201d\u00a0 \u2026but he smiled and said \u201cOkay, we\u2019ll get the paint and stuff and do it tomorrow.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

After about an hour I heard mumbling, so I went and checked to see what was happening.\u00a0 He hadn\u2019t even gotten around the windows done!\u00a0 I stood there and quietly asked, \u201cHow is it going?\u201d\u00a0 His eye brow rose to new heights, and he said, \u201cThe paint is not sticking.\u201d\u00a0 Not sure of what that meant, I looked and sure enough the paint was not covering properly, it truly appeared to hate the mint green so much it was separating.\u00a0 What now, I thought?\u00a0 As I stood there unsure of what to say\u2026 he runs out to the garage and gets buckets with ammonia, soap and water and a rag and comes back to wipe down all the walls.\u00a0 Okay, I thought, that should do it\u2026 he\u2019ll be done in no time now!\u00a0 I am so excited, no more mint green!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Another couple of hours and more mumbling, so back out to the porch I went, this time I went with fresh coffee in hand!\u00a0 Now it seems as though the paint was being sucked into the walls.\u00a0 Oh dear, we only had two cans of paint.\u00a0 So back out to the store to get another three cans\u2026\u00a0 my husband was not, I repeat, not going to have to go back to the store for one can of paint.\u00a0 (Mind you nothing is close in Ohio, so the trip for paint is 35 minutes to get to the store, 30 minutes to get your paint mixed and pay and then 35 minutes to get back home.\u00a0 So he had a valid point about extra paint.)\u00a0 We return and he runs into the garage again and comes out in coveralls, a mask and paint sprayer!\u00a0 In my infinite wisdom, ladies learn to keep your mouth shout, I asked, \u201cWhy didn\u2019t you do it like that in the first place?\u201d\u00a0 He removed his mask, raised his eye brow and said \u201cBecause *you said* it would only take and hour!\u00a0 Because *you said* how hard could it be!\u00a0 And I believed you!\u201d\u00a0 He put back on his mask and marched up to the front porch and proceeded to spray paint.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Not even realizing it, the day was gone, it was dinner time.\u00a0 I went out to check the progress, fresh coffee in hand, and noticed the sun was getting into its setting position and asked do you think you\u2019ll finish soon?\u00a0 Okay, you know I got the eye brow again and he just smiled and said\u2026\u00a0 \u201cIt should only take about and an hour, how hard could it be\u2026 order pizza.\u201d\u00a0 So I left the coffee and I went and ordered the pizza.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Just as the pizza arrived, he was finally finished painting!\u00a0 I was excited and I said we can put of the fan and the light in tomorrow.\u00a0 Oh no\u2026 he was on a mission now!\u00a0 He was determined to have his pizza on a completed front porch and he said so!\u00a0 The light went up in about ten minutes and the fan took about an hour, you have to put those things together.\u00a0 While he was cleaning up the paint cans and other items, I went out and uncovered the sofa, warmed the pizza and brought him a plate.\u00a0 At nine o\u2019 clock or there about, we were sitting on the freshly painted front porch with the fan going and the light on, eating warmed pizza.\u00a0 I looked over at him and said \u201cHoney\u2026\u201d before I could finish he said, \u201cI\u2019m not mad, I\u2019m not even upset\u2026 I\u2019m just glad it\u2019s done\u2026 and no worries\u2026 but a General Contractor you are *not*.\u201d\u00a0 He smiled, I smiled, we ate our pizza and the next day all was right in the world, he still loved me!\u00a0 Many nights we spent out there sitting and talking and sometimes remembering the adventure it was to get it painted!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
